Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, sleepy town. People who don't understand they mistakenly believe they are on the West Island extends westward from Montreal. In fact it is the West Island includes everything westward from Lachine. Lachine. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time there was short. Brugel became an aspiring young lady in Courtice Ontario, outside Oshawa. Her first ambition was to be an expert dancer. But, a growing increase caused her to surpass all of the dance partners she had. In an article published in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. Once I outgrew male partners, that's when I gave up. Brugel was one of many former dancers that turned into acting. The teacher she had at high school encouraged her in the right direction. The teacher recommended that she audition for an annual school production. She was able to audition and be cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts in 2000. Over the last 20 years, Brugel's work has been seen on both the large and small screen. Her work gained most fame when she was offered the role as Rita on the award-winning TV show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actress in Season 1 and only appeared on occasion.
